At our arrival, we are greeted with continuous rain, no heat, and no where to park a 34 foot Uhaul+trailer.
Making the trip in 5 hours, we are the first to arrive. As we wait for the rest of the family with the truck, the logical thinking is to turn on the heat. Mind you neither of us have lived in a home where the heater is powered by gas.A few phone calls later, we learn that the pilot light needs to be lit. As we brave the flame, we get it lit, the heat starts, and we play the waiting game on cold, hard wood floors. Then, the worst happens. The smoke detector goes off. As we look at each other in sheer panic and a small dog start to whine, we attempt to make the alarm stop.We fan the alarm to a halt and continue our wait complaining about the cold and why they are driving so slow; they finally pull up with the dads in a tiff on where to leave the truck to unload.
As we race to unload the truck to a second floor apartment, while still raining, the neighbors make themselves known with a loud argument over parking spots.
As the day comes to a close we decided on a warm, relaxing family dinner and a last minute Target haul for the few missing necessities needed for the very first night in our humble abode.
~ I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I've ended up where I needed to be.~
